Walking alone through the forest,

I came upon two great grand-mother trees.

Compelled by their size and age, I asked them each a question.

Resting my hands on the scaley-yellow bark of the first I asked,

“What do you have  to teach me?”

Through images and feelings she responded, “Send your roots deep into the earth and reach your branches high into the sky…”.

Thankful for this insight, I bowed and walked to the second tree.

Resting my hands on the second tree, I asked, “What do you have to teach me?”

She responded, “ask me a question about life…”.

Having no questions,

I gave my thanks to the two  great grand-mother trees,

and continued walking into the forest…
