Thought I would share this photo with you all…
This is an image of the Ashoka Prayer Wheels in the Dalai Lama’s Temple. The prayer wheels are engraved with the om-ma-ni-pad-me-om mantra. Among many things mantra represents generosity, ethics, patients, diligence, renunciation and wisdom. It is customary to walk around the building that houses these wheels in a clockwise direction and spin the wheels suspended within the walls in a clock wise direction as well. Every wheel that is spun, gives us the merit and clarity found in reciting the mantra once. So, walking around the building and spinning all the wheels gives us much merit and clarity. I have to say it is a very neat experience. The temple is a three minute walk away from where I’m staying and a very peaceful place to visit in the morning.
I have spun a couple for you all as well,
Alex
What a beautiful image!
I might be wrong, but I believe the prayer wheels have been filled with many written (or printed?) mani prayer mantras, so when we turn any wheel, we actually generate additional merit equal to all the contained prayers. For 108 bonus merit points (which I’ll happily share!) I enjoy saying the mantra each time I turn a wheel :o)
Nice photograph Alex!
Spin 3 for me 🙂
