Chiang Mai Witness from Alex Pullen on Vimeo.

Explore Northern Thailand in this colorful first-person travel film. See the Loi Krathong lantern festival, walk the markets, cruse through traffic on Huay Khao Road and visit the elaborate Buddhist temples in the Old City. Filmed over the course of three months, this short travel montage explores what life is like as an expat living in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Special thanks to Ben Dory and Marion Bouquet for helping film, and to all the amazing people we got to meet while in Thailand (both expats and locals).

I’m really excited to share this video as it’s been over a year in the making. This movie gave me a bit of a challenge as I had no consistent “characters” in the film and thus I feared a weak story line. To counter this I intentionally added segments emphasizing commerce, travel and monetary exchange, something that you do a lot as a tourist or expat. I found shopping in the open air markets to be one of the funnest ways to connect with the locals and the language. This element helps emphasize the “first-person perspective” as if you were actually traveling there.
